A.R.E. LAUNCHED A REVAMPED VERSION of the popular regional
Shoptalk series this spring, bringing a combination of education and networking to
retailers and designers in their hometowns.
Each of the four spring Shoptalks included interactive educational sessions on
technology (“The Collision of Digital and Physical Design”) and ROI (“The Quest for
Store Design’s Holy Grail”). Presenters included Jim Crawford of Retail Experience
Design Lab, Janis Healey of EWI Worldwide, Kathleen Jordan of
Gensler, and Karen Schaffner of A.R.E.
We first headed to MIAMI, where South Florida retailers and
designers gathered on April 16 at the Miami Center for Architecture
& Design. Hosted by A.R.E. member ID & Design International
and sponsored by Kendu, the event included a bonus session
on “Connecting with The New Hispanic Consumer” presented
by Fernando Castillo, retail creative strategist with ID & Design
Next, we set out for the West Coast, with a LOS ANGELES event
on April 23 hosted by Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising
in their Museum & Galleries. L.A. sponsors were Reeve Store Equip
ment Co., CDW Merchants, and Octopus Products. A quick hop took
us to SAN FRANCISCO on May 7, where our Northern California
Shoptalk was hosted by Gensler and sponsored by B+N Industries,
Moz Designs, and Specialty Fixtures by Lozier.
The whirlwind spring series wrapped up on May 14 in NEW YORK,
where Gensler hosted the educational program in their NYC offices
and an evening cocktail reception at the Harman flagship store.

After a welldeserved summer break, our Shoptalk team heads
out on the road again in September, with another exciting itinerary:
