WITH A THEME OF MIXOLOGY, the presentation of the 2014 A.R.E. Design Awards in Las Vegas
showcased 46 projects from five continents with the right
concoction for retail success. Manhattan and Toronto continue to shake up retail design, with eight and five winning
projects, respectively. A total of 69 awards were presented
for designs the judges found stirring. Highlighting the
ceremony were the crème de la crème: Store of the Year,
Sustainable Project of the Year, Visual Presentation of the
Year, and Fixture of the Year.
Individual Element Awards have been growing since their
2010 inception as elements within the store gain importance.
Visual merchandising in particular has been strongly recognized by judges, with awards doubling each year for the past
two years. As retailers blur the lines between online and
offline, in-store communications remain vital, with a number
of entries earning kudos.
