GlobalShop 2012 marked retail growth with new events,
At the industry’s largest annual trade show and conference, held in Las Vegas Feb. 29 to March 2, it was clear that suppliers and
retailers alike were upbeat and optimistic
about retail growth and prospects.
So it’s not surprising that the show grew
significantly in size this year, attracting
more attendees and more suppliers, for
a total of nearly 12,000 industry profes-
sionals, according to show management.
Retailers and brands from around the
world were well represented, with more
than 6,400 in attendance, up 11 percent
from last year. International attendance
was up 21 percent, recognizing the increas-
ingly globalization of retail.

GlobalShop 2012 built on the current retail optimism with increased attendance, more exhibitors,
and several new initiatives. A.R.E.’s booth this year was designed by member design firm
board of directors. “There was energy on
the floor. Retailers were once again walk-
ing in teams, and they were there to find
solutions to specific projects with budgets
to support them.”
Exhibitors and attendees we talked to
said overall that they are seeing an upswing
in business. One attendee called the show
“the most productive GlobalShop I’ve been
to in years,” a sentiment that was echoed
by other retailers.
GlobalShop Show Director Tim Fearney
attributed some of the increase to the pow-
erful conference program at this year’s
show. “Educational sessions at GlobalShop
really resonated with attendees this year,”
said Fearney. “There were many new con-
ference initiatives to get excited about,
including firsts, like topic-based educa-
tion tracks and Spanish-language sessions.
Attendees were eager to learn about new
trends in visual merchandising, shop-
per marketing, and store design, which
fueled a 21 percent increase in conference
Adding to the buzz this year was the
debut of several new events, including the
new Design Inspiration Showcase, which
gave design firms a central area on the
show floor to showcase their services and
meet with current and prospective clients.
