Attendance at the industry’s largest annual gathering and
conference reflects a strengthening retail market By Karen Doodeman
This auspicious February 29 start date for GlobalShop appears to bode well for the 20th anniversary of the industry’s premier annual
trade show. As of press time, attendance
was tracking 65 percent ahead of the same
period in 2011. Conference session registrations, a good indicator of overall attendance, are also up, driven in part by the
show’s new conference track format.
Exhibit hall sales are also ahead of 2011.
Show management projects over 600
exhibiting companies, a 3 percent increase.
“We’re excited about all the new offerings
at this year’s show. We’re introducing more
new initiatives than we ever have in one
year,” says Show Manager Tim Fearney.
New this year are conference tracks,
PAVE’s Student Day, Spanish-language sessions, the GlobalShop Innovation Theatre,
the Design Inspiration Showcase, and
GlobalShop Exchange, a modified speed-dating concept that will take place before
the show begins.
In addition, GlobalShop Connect, the
show’s online directory, will play a more
central role onsite. The search enables
attendees to find exhibitors by name,
booth number, or product via smartphone
or laptop. Details on conference sessions
and other GlobalShop events can also be
accessed. Watch for QR codes placed strategically throughout the show floor for easy
access to GlobalShop Connect onsite.
