Houston Premium Outlets | Cypress, Texas
Mixing science and nature, the cashwrap in Nautica’s
store in Houston Premium Outlets creates visual interest that
draws customers to it. With the design of the store inspired by
a vacation home near the water, the cashwrap and backwrap
were built from plain sliced Red Oak to allow the texture of the
grain to show through. A custom finishing process produced
the look of weathered teak and sun-bleached wood tones combining a gray stain with a white glaze and a dull sheen topcoat
for added protection. The white high-gloss painted surface on
the left side of the wrap is in contrast to the textured elements
of the weathered oak. The white quartz countertop surface
offers durability while symbolizing the crisp materials found
throughout the retail space. Branded elements can be found
on the cashwrap face where Nautica’s logo is routed into the
smooth vertical wood surface, painted in high-gloss white.
The J-class sail that represents Nautica’s iconic logo mark is
subtly placed on the backwrap wall for brand reinforcement.
The back wall features an area that can be changed out from
a plasma TV to a light box or printed graphic, providing a primary focal in the store.

Billabong SoHo New York
Billabong SoHo’s cashwrap and backwrap
primarily consist of a substrate wrapped with a ¼-in. farmed
Douglas-Fir end grain, contributing to the natural yet modern-edge look and feel of the store. The center customer zone of
the cashwrap is covered in 100-year-old reclaimed teak—a
material used throughout the entire store to tie in the tropical nature of the surf industry while providing a very earthy
and warm feeling to the store. The countertops are solid surface Caesarstone, which lends durability to this high-traffic
area. The placement of two POS systems located at each end
allows sales associates to use the center area as a shared service area. The unique backwrap image area is covered in dark
blue recycled bottles framing a surf-themed image, which is
on a backlit fabric light box. Adding to the surf-themed environment, three stainless-steel pendant lights were designed
and built using surfboard fins.
